Ooooh, I do like surprises and the one in my email Inbox this morning brightened my day!
Upon Suicidal Winds They Come...
Thus starts the new Crypts & Things Remastered edition I received in PDF form. It is a final draft of a swords & sorcery version of the famous Swords & Wizardry rules and is to be upgraded when the books are printed. Since I did the pre-order and ponied up for a hardcover issue, I received a free PDF of the adventure Blood of the Dragon. I have to get ready for a day at work, but at first glance it looks good. At least I've got something to look forward to when I get home tonight. I'll give a better impression of my reading later.

Frog God Games to Publish Swords & Wizardry: Light
If you know Erik Tenkar of Tenkar’s Tavern, (one of my favorite gaming blog sites) then you know he’s a big fan of Swords & Wizardry. So much that he has collaborated with Frog God Games in publishing Swords & Wizardry: Light. What is S&WL? It covers levels 1 through 3, includes the core classes with a Thief class to be renamed. There are some other minor things included, all within a 4 page booklet that will be included with every Frog God Games order. A major fan of S&W myself, I thought I would pass the news along.
Erik’s idea was a 4-page stripped down version of Swords & Wizardry: White Box targeted at lapsed gamers, with 4-page adventures to follow. Eh, I’m not sure a lite version of a light rules system is needed. Right now I’m just interested in what is proposed as a 4th class, the to-be-renamed Thief, for White Box. Isn’t that the one thing that has been clamored for by fans?

Whitebox Fantasy Medieval Adventure Game
In one of my itinerant late night ramblings about the web I came across Charlie Mason’s revision of Swords & Wizardry’s Whitebox. If you ever get to know me, you’ll find out that I LOVE Swords & Wizardry whether it be WB, Core, or Complete. But I was like, hey wait, we already have a Whitebox. So what’s the deal?
Seems Charlie was hoping for years that there might be a revision to the rules, a better more streamlined layout. And more art. Gosh, we loves more art! But the years went by and alas, no such creature was ever created. As the game was a gift from Matt Finch to us fans, Charlie decided to do a revision himself and Whitebox: Fantastic Medieval Adventure Game, or FMAG for those who just love giving everything an acronym, was born.
According to his own blog, Charlie states what sets his revision apart from the original game.
I added some various OSR stuff to change it up a bit. I included the much needed "essential adventuring rules" by Douglas Maxwell. Jousting by John Stater. Overland transportation rates from Delving Deeper. The Thief and some monsters from James Spahn.
Also, the game is offered in softcover format. But that’s not all! There are two variant covers to pick from, Red and Blue. The Red cover is art from Eric Logfren, the Blue is from Stefan Poag. Both are available from Amazon! This link is for Poag’s cover.
I’ve been debating which softcover version to get, but when I cash in my ‘nickles and pennies’ coffee can, I know I’ll probably wind up buying both.
